African
American Press Trip Destination DC’s Carla Barry-Austin hosted
a group of prominent African American journalists and editors March 5-8 to build
on the excitement surrounding the Obama inauguration to generate positive press
coverage for the city. Attendees represented such publications as Essence Magazine,
Heart & Soul Magazine and Black Enterprise. The group dined at DC spots Mie N
Yu, Art and Soul, Ben's Chili Bowl and Next Door, Marvin Restaurant & Lounge,
OYA, Georgia Brown's and Oyamel, and visited Ford’s Theatre, The Smithsonian
Anacostia Community Museum, The Frederick Douglas National Historic Site, the
Capitol Visitor Center and more. Accommodations were provided by Hotel
George.
Destination Showcase On
Feb. 26, Destination DC presented one of the most popular booths at Destination
Showcase, the meeting industry’s largest forum that brings together corporate,
government, association, and independent meeting planners. “Appearances”
by Presidents Lincoln and Obama in wax, thanks to Madame Tussauds, drew a huge
crowd to Destination DC's booth, where more than 100 clients stopped by to be
photographed with the Presidents and drop off leads for new business.
Expo Vacaciones in Mexico City Destination DC’s
Letizia Sirtori attended Expo Vacaciones in Mexico City on March 2-4 on behalf
of the Capital Region USA. Also in attendance were Sybrina Lambeth-Jones of the
Washington, DC Metropolitan Airport Authority, Destination DC Mexico Sales Representative
Adriana Cañizares, and United Airlines Mexico. The most important travel
and tourism event in Mexico, Expo Vacaciones features a tradeshow as well as one-on-one
appointments, and highlights US destinations and suppliers. The event also included
networking opportunities and a media day with the major trade magazines in Mexico.
