FotoWeek DC is back The second annual FotoWeek DC
Awards has expanded from a regional competition to an international call for entries
of remarkable imagery, both in single and series form, as well as multimedia pieces
that combine the strength of still images with video, sound and graphics. The
event is open to all professionals, amateurs, and students around the world. The
final awards deadline is Sep. 13, but enter by July 26 to receive a 20% discount

Executive Association From July 7-12, Destination DC Convention Sales
Manager Sharmane Fernandez joined nearly 500 attendees at the Fraternal Executive
Association in New Orleans. Fernandez met with executive directors of sororities
and fraternities from across the U.S. to promote DC as a location for their conferences
and events, and developed business opportunities through 2020. Partners: Kimpton
Hotels, Washington Plaza Hotel
Experient
FAM The Destination DC Sales team hosted 11 members of Experient,
a third party organization that assists Destination DC and works with clients
in the DC metropolitan area, for a familiarization trip on July 14. The group
visited DC hotels and venues that have had recent renovations or remodelings,
including the Dupont Hotel and Hilton Washington.

Council Passes Marriott Marquis Financing On July
14, DC Council passed legislation to finance a 1,167-room Marriott Marquis across
from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center as well as a related training
program. For details, visit yesterday’s Washington Business Journal article.
Record-Breaking Numbers at Artomatic Artomatic, DC’s
annual 5-week art extravaganza, closed this year’s event with record-breaking
numbers. Total attendance this year reached 76,529, an increase of nearly
46% from last year's attendance of 52,503. The final week was the most popular,
with many people trying to squeeze in a last trip to Artomatic before closing.
Travel + Leisure's America's Favorite Cities
Survey Two weeks remain to vote for Washington, DC in Travel
+ Leisure's annual survey to determine America's Favorite Cities. Voting closes on July 31. So blog,
tweet, and pitch Washington, DC to the top of the charts.
