ASAE
Destination DC’s Elliott Ferguson, Tiffany Chester and Melissa Riley, along with the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and our industry partners, traveled to Toronto for the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Annual Meeting and Expo, Aug. 16-18. They joined 4,300 association executives and suppliers for a three day conference with exposition and educational components. The exposition yielded 14 leads for the city with a potential of more than 30,000 total room nights.

Raytheon’s Meeting & Events Council
Raytheon’s Meeting & Events Council brings together 19 of the organization’s key meeting planners from throughout the country. Their Aug. 19-20 meeting in DC kicked off with a reception, and presentations followed the next morning by their Global Hotel Partners. Destination DC’s Tiffany Chester and Laura Gardner attended to welcome the group to DC, and provided a final presentation and overview of what DC has to offer, as well as how Destination DC can assist.

  • The United States Botanic Garden (USBG) has won Nickelodeon’s Parents’ Picks Award as Washington, D.C.’s Best Tourist Spot
  • Washington, DC is the “brainiest state” according to one recent study. Data for the study came from agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • Twenty-five-year National Park Service employee John Piltzecker has been appointed Superintendent of the National Mall & Memorial Parks.
  • Festivals, DC LTD, producer of the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival, has welcomed Lynn Gutter as their new Director of Communications. Previously she served as Marketing and Community Development Manager at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
